Katherine Laney

Researcher

Katherine Laney is at St Hughs college and joined the group in 2020 as an SCG Scholar working on the surface engineering of layered double hydroxides for advanced applications.

Previously, Katherine studied for her integrated Masters at Cardiff University, where she undertook her year in industry working for Mondelez International and Reading Scientific Services in their analytical pharmaceuticals department. Her Masters was spent at the Cardiff Catalysis Institute, under Prof. Stuart Taylor working on the total catalytic oxidation of CO, Propene and Toluene.

Katie states 'I have a strong interest in innovation and entrepreneurism, and was recently fortunate enough to become a winner of the inaugural Jamie Ferguson Chemistry Innovation Award ' (‘The Jamie’, a legacy to Jamie Ferguson from Oxford University Innovation). 'The award brings with it both a financial element and mentorship from OUI with leading industrial figures, together with practice at pitching to an expert audience, allowing me to expand on my innovation ‘A hydrophobic solution to the solar energy challenge'.

When not in the lab she enjoys running and swimming or is found walking her dog searching for new coffee shops.
