Researcher
Dr Roland Turnell-Ritson joined the O’Hare group in January 2025. He received his PhD in chemistry from Imperial College London in 2021, working on low-valent group 14 complexes for small molecule activation, supervised by Dr Andrew Ashley. He then took up a postdoc position in EPFL, Switzerland, as an EPFLeaders4impact Fellow under the guidance of Professor Paul Dyson, developing heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 conversion. He was also involved in projects on biomass and plastic waste valorisation, perovskite solar cells, and anticancer drug testing. His current research interests include investigating catalytic mechanisms, and applying catalysis to sustainability technology.
Roland is also Deputy Director to SCG-CoE.
Outside the lab, Roland can be found running, eating, or watching TV. He likes to get out into nature, whatever the weather.
